Commissioning

A straightforward route for rolling out new shopfront vinyl and brand marks on South African retail sites, written for teams who know the tools and the layout.

How Commissioning works on a live retail week

Use the Commissioning page when a new retail site needs graphics signed off for rollout. It covers the handover stage for shopfront vinyl, brand marks and pack details before installation starts.

Commissioning starts with the branch condition, not the artwork file. Note the fascia width, glazing type, fixing points, and whether the site is in a windy coastal centre or a dusty inland strip mall. For South African rollouts, generator periods, landlord access hours, and courier handovers can all affect when vinyl and brand marks are released for installation.

Keep one image from the first site check with the commissioning pack. It helps the installer confirm mullion spacing, fascia joins, and where brand marks sit against doors or glazing. When a panel is remade later, that record is often what prevents a size guess on a busy retail fit-out.

Handover pack for rollout

The Commissioning stage should leave the team with marked-up sizes, approved artwork references, and a site pack tied to the correct branch. Include the vinyl spec, colour callouts, and any notes about application onto glass, ACM, painted plaster, or existing sign trays. One signed set is easier to action than mixed instructions spread across messages and screenshots.

Before the pack moves to production, match Commissioning details against the branch layout, the brand mark artwork, and any shopfront revision on file. Check quantity splits for windows, fascia panels, and entry decals, then send final handover notes through the contact form. Where a landlord pack exists, note any restrictions on illumination, fixing method, or visible edge colour.

  • Branch pack tied to exact frontage
  • Install checks logged before vinyl release

Retail rollout checks for South Africa

Commissioning for local sites must account for shopping centre rules, road freight timing, and mixed wall conditions. A branch in Sandton, Durban North, or Bellville may carry different access hours, security sign-in, and offloading limits. Record whether the old branding is painted, pinned, siliconed, or vinyl faced before the replacement pack is booked.

Material choice changes with climate and exposure. Salt air near the coast can affect edge life and hardware finish, while Highveld dust means more surface prep before application. During power cuts, print finishing and on-site fitment windows need to be checked against the centre's operating schedule.

Information needed before sign-off

Send branch name, full site address, frontage measurements, opening date, and any approved art when Commissioning is requested. Add photos of the current shopfront, plus close images of problem areas such as chipped paint, bowed panels, cracked glazing film, or non-standard trims. If the rollout includes multiple marks, label each location clearly so the pack can be checked against the right elevation.

Keep the Commissioning record with the production job and installer notes. It should show what was approved for print, what was supplied in the pack, and what still needs confirmation on site. That paper trail is useful when a branch receives replacement decals, revised panel sizes, or an extra fascia mark after the first install.
